Workshop Journal · Tesla Model 3 / Model Y · Irvine, California
Is your Tesla Model Y or Model 3 approaching 60,000 miles? If you hear a clunk when turning, notice the car pulling to one side, or see uneven wear along the inside or outside of a tire, start with a suspension and tire inspection. A wheel alignment alone may not address worn components.
KIMI Racing provides independent Tesla service in Irvine, including suspension diagnosis, control-arm replacement and wheel alignment. We welcome drivers from Irvine 92618 and 92620, Lake Forest, Tustin, Mission Viejo, throughout Orange County, and the Los Angeles area.
Model 3 and Model Y suspension symptoms to check
- Clunking, knocking or creaking when turning or driving over bumps.
- Pulling to one side or a change in steering feel.
- Uneven tire wear along an inner or outer shoulder.
- Visible bushing damage or excessive movement found during inspection.
These symptoms can have several causes, including tire pressure or tire condition, alignment, worn bushings, ball joints or other suspension components. 60,000 miles is a useful reminder to inspect, not a fixed failure point or an automatic replacement interval.

What worn lower control-arm bushings can change
Control arms and links help locate the wheel as the suspension moves. When a bushing has significant wear or separation, excess movement can change wheel positioning under braking, acceleration or cornering. Adjusting alignment does not repair that movement.
The removed arm in this photo set shows cracking around its bushing. The comparison photographs make the old and replacement components easy to inspect. A photograph alone does not establish the condition of every joint or identify every source of noise.

Our Model Y control-arm workshop photo story
This white Model Y is pictured with replacement front suspension arms and links prepared before installation. The close-ups show the components, identifying labels, bushings and mounting areas. Model 3 owners may have similar concerns, but exact parts and procedures must match the vehicle’s year, configuration and VIN.

Inspection first. Repair next. Alignment afterward.
Our service approach is to identify the source of noise or movement, explain the findings, and replace the components that inspection shows need attention. We offer OEM-spec replacement options, with the selected parts and fitment confirmed in your estimate.

After the repair, professional wheel alignment checks and any necessary adjustment help establish the correct wheel geometry. Tire pressures and tire condition also need attention. Existing tire wear will not disappear after an alignment, and severely worn tires may need replacement.
Tesla’s Model Y alignment-check procedure assumes the suspension is operating as intended. This supports checking mechanical condition before relying on alignment readings.

Frequently asked questions
Can an alignment fix my Tesla’s suspension clunk?
An alignment adjusts wheel geometry. It does not repair a worn bushing, loose joint or damaged arm. Identify the cause of the clunk before deciding what work is needed.
Do all Model 3 and Model Y control arms fail at 60,000 miles?
No. Condition varies with age, mileage, road conditions and use. Inspect when symptoms develop, even if the car has fewer miles.
